If you live in Canberra or elsewhere in the ACT and become ill or injured, you may be eligible to make a claim for lost income in the event that you are unable to return to work.

Most workers with superannuation in the ACT will have some kind of superannuation insurance cover, whether it is TPD insurance, income protection insurance, trauma insurance or terminal illness protection. You may even have multiple policies in place due to multiple super accounts or other insurance cover you may have purchased or received separately.

Many people are unaware of the exact coverage they have, or the criteria for making a claim or multiple claims.

This is where Lionheart Lawyers can help. We are experts in TPD, superannuation and income protection insurance claims with more than 50 years of combined experience in injury law.

Let us ease some of the stress created by your illness or injury. We will review your existing cover, check the fine print, and identify all the claims you are eligible to make. We will even lodge your claim on your behalf to maximise your entitlements and make sure you don’t miss out on any benefits.

It costs nothing to call us for an initial assessment so we can hear your case and advise you on next steps. Our no-win, no-fee policy means we will do everything we can to ensure your claim is successful.

ACT TPD Insurance Claims

If your illness or injury stops you working in your current position or another suitable position, you may be eligible to make a total and permanent disability (TPD) claim.

You don’t have to be injured at work to make a TPD claim. Illnesses and injuries that can lead to a successful TPD claim include:

  • Psychological conditions, such as bipolar disorder, anxiety, PTSD;
  • Chronic illnesses;
  • Degenerative diseases;
  • Cancer;
  • Heart attacks;
  • Injuries sustained in a car accident, on the sports field, or at home;
  • Many other illnesses and injuries.

Most people with superannuation in ACT will have TPD insurance attached to their super policy. If you have multiple super policies, you may be able to make multiple claims.

Additionally, if you were injured at work in the ACT, you may be eligible to make a workers compensation claim.

Our expert lawyers are well-versed in superannuation insurance law and will take care of all the details, leaving you to focus on your wellbeing and recovery.

We will:

  1. Identify all the claims you are able to make;
  2. Compile the required medical reports, plus any documentation from Centrelink, WorkSafe and other third parties;
  3. Lodge your claim correctly to avoid any oversights or errors which can create delays or result in denied claims;
  4. If your claim is successful, we will follow up to ensure you begin receiving your regular payments or your lump sum payment as soon as possible.

Claiming Income Protection in ACT

If you are unable to work due to illness or injury, you may be eligible to claim income protection. Income protection provides regular monthly payments to replace or partly replace your normal income if you are forced to stop working.

Income protection insurance is also known as salary continuance and may be part of your superannuation policy or purchased as a separate policy.

Your illness or injury does not have to be work-related or accident-related for you to be able to claim income protection. You may be covered for any illness or injury, from cancer or a heart attack to a psychological condition or sports injury.

We know that it can be overwhelming to submit your income protection claim when you are already struggling with your illness or injury.

Our experienced income protection solicitors will investigate your coverage and find out exactly what you are entitled to. We will lodge your claim on your behalf to maximise your entitlements.
